Water Parameter Requirements:

  • pH: 6.5–7.5 (They prefer slightly acidic to neutral water, unlike other Caridina that require very low pH).
  • General Hardness (GH): 6–10 dGH (They need moderate mineral content for successful molting).
  • Carbonate Hardness (KH): 1–4 dKH (Unlike bee shrimp, they benefit from a tiny amount of KH to buffer the pH).
  • Temperature: 18–23°C (64–74°F) (They prefer cooler water; high temperatures reduce oxygen levels and increase mortality).
  • Total Dissolved Solids (TDS): 150–220 ppm
  • Ammonia & Nitrite: 0 ppm (They have zero tolerance for cycling spikes).
  • Nitrate: < 10 ppm (Keep as low as possible through regular maintenance).

Tank Setup & Diet:

  • Substrate: Active buffering soil (like Shrimp King or Nature Soil)
  • Aquascaping: Pack the tank with Java moss, driftwoods, and Cholla wood to promote the growth of natural biofilm, which is their primary food source.
  • Diet: Feed them high-quality powdered or pellet shrimp foods.
