Ludwigia palustris ‘Super Red’ is one of the easiest and most vibrant red stem plants available in the aquarium hobby. Unlike many demanding red aquatic plants, it can maintain a distinct red coloration even in low-tech, non-CO2 setups, making it highly recommended for beginners. Under intense light and carbon dioxide injection, its small leaves turn a breathtaking, deeply saturated crimson colour.

Care Overview:
- Growth Rate: Fast.
- Placement: Midground or background.
- Height: 10–30 cm.
- Temperature: 18–28°C.
- pH Range: 6.0–7.5.
Core Requirements:
- Lighting: Medium to high. Low light causes the plant to turn olive-green or drop its lower leaves.
- CO2 Injection: Optional but highly recommended. Supplying CO2 promotes a much deeper red coloration and dense, bushy branching.
- Nutrients: Requires a nutrient-rich substrate or regular dosing. It responds exceptionally well to heavy iron supplementation to lock in its fiery colour.
Maintenance & Trimming:
Because of its rapid growth, regular pruning is required. Trimming the tops forces the plant to aggressively throw out side shoots, creating a compact, dense bush. You can easily propagate the plant by pushing the severed top cuttings right back into the aquarium substrate, where they will quickly grow new roots.
