Anubias barteri is one of the most durable, low-maintenance, and popular freshwater aquarium plants in the hobby. Native to West Africa, this slow-growing epiphyte features thick, dark green leaves and a rugged structure that allows it to survive even with herbivorous fish like cichlids. It is highly versatile and thrives without specialized substrate, high lighting, or carbon dioxide (CO₂) injection.

Core Requirements & Care:
- Critical Rule: Never bury the thick stem-like rhizome in substrate. It will rot and cause the plant to die.
- Placement: Attach it to hardscape like rocks or driftwood using thread, fishing line, or aquarium-safe superglue.
- Lighting: Low to moderate light. Intense light triggers green spot algae growth on older leaves.
- Water Temperature: Prefers a stable range between 22°C and 28°C.
- Water pH: Highly adaptable, thriving between 6.0 and 7.8.
- Nutrition: Absorbs nutrients directly from the water. Regular dosing with a liquid fertilizer keeps it healthy.
Propagation:
Propagating Anubias barteri is simple. Use a sharp, sterilized blade to slice the creeping rhizome into sections. Ensure each newly cut piece retains at least 3 to 4 healthy leaves to handle photosynthesis while it recovers and anchors itself.
