Essential Care & Growth Requirements
- Lighting: Low to moderate. Vallis is highly adaptable and can survive in basic low-tech setups, though moderate lighting promotes faster growth and thicker leaves.
- Substrate & Nutrients: It absorbs nutrients heavily through its root system. A nutrient-rich substrate or regular addition of root tabs inserted near the base will significantly boost its health.
- Water Parameters: It thrives best in a temperature range of 18°C to 28°C. It strongly prefers harder, alkaline water (pH 6.5 to 8.0) and may struggle or melt in extremely soft, acidic water.
- Propagation: Highly prolific. Once established, the plant spreads rapidly across the aquarium floor by sending out runners (horizontal roots) that sprout new daughter plants.
- Liquid Carbon Warning: Be cautious if you use liquid carbon supplements (such as glutaraldehyde-based products). Vallisneria is notorious for melting and dying when exposed to heavy doses of liquid carbon, so introduce it slowly or avoid it entirely.
