Anubias Nana ‘Ice’ is a rare, slow-growing aquarium plant prized for its unique pale green to creamy-white foliage. It is a cultivated variant of the hardy Anubias nana. It serves as an excellent foreground or midground focal point in low-tech planted aquariums.

Key Characteristics:

  • Distinctive Coloration: Features striking frosty-white to silvery-green leaves that offer a sharp contrast against dark rocks, wood, or gravel.
  • Growth Habit: Reaches a compact height of 5–15 cm. It develops via a thick horizontal stem called a rhizome.
  • Low Maintenance: Like standard Anubias varieties, it is exceptionally hardy. It thrives without strictly requiring carbon dioxide (CO₂) injection.

Essential Care & Planting Guide:

  • Do Not Bury the Rhizome: Never bury the thick horizontal rhizome under sand or gravel. Covering it cuts off water circulation, causing the plant to rot and die within weeks.
  • Attach to Hardscape: Secure the plant to driftwood, lava rocks, or decorations. Use fishing line, cotton thread, or fish-safe cyanoacrylate super glue until the roots naturally anchor themselves.
  • Manage Lighting Carefully: Provide low to medium light. Because white leaves contain less chlorophyll, they grow incredibly slowly. High-intensity light will quickly cause green spot algae to blanket the leaves. Tuck it into shaded areas under taller plants or hardscape if your aquarium light is powerful.
  • Water Parameters: Keep the water temperature between 22–28 °C and maintain a stable pH between 6,0 and 7,5.
  • Acclimation Warning: Highly variegated cultivars are prone to initial leaf melting when first introduced into a new aquarium. Maintain high water quality and minimize sudden environmental swings to help it adapt.
