Essential Care & Tank Requirements:
- Tank Size: Provide a minimum aquarium capacity of 30 litres (approx. 8 gallons) for a single male to swim comfortably.
- Water Temperature: Maintain a stable tropical temperature between 24°C and 28°C. A reliable heater is crucial, especially during cold winter months.
- Water Parameters: Keep the water conditions soft and slightly acidic to neutral, aiming for a pH range of 6.4 to 7.5.
- Filtration: Use a low-flow filter (such as a sponge filter) because long-finned bettas struggle to swim against harsh power heads.
- Environment: Decorate with plenty of live plants and smooth hiding spots to prevent fin tearing and lower stress.
Diet and Behaviour:
- Feeding: Feed a high-protein diet consisting of quality betta pellets, supplemented with live or frozen treats like bloodworms, daphnia, or brine shrimp.
- Aggression: House male bettas strictly alone or with very peaceful, non-nippy tank mates like snails. Never house two males together, as they will fight aggressively.
